ILLUSTRATION TECHNIQUES USING ADOBE ILLUSTRATOR®

Project No. 1:

1 or 2 Point Perspective Room or Cityscape Illustration

This project explores the more advanced digital illustration techniques of drawing and rendering using blending, gradients and the gradient mesh, masking and knockouts, transparency attributes, and creating effects.

Using the design process (sketches, rough drafts, final work), illustrate an interior (such as a room or lobby area) or an exterior (such as a city block or street corner) of your choice in one or two point perspective, incorporating the following elements:

  • At least one object that has a reflective surface (vase, porcelain lamp, mirror, window, drinking glass, etc).
  • At least one transparent element (window, lace drapery, shower door, etc).
  • An object made of wooden texture (floor, wall paneling, etc).
  • A metal object (appliance, file cabinet, mailbox, pole, etc).
  • A bench, chair or sofa (any texture you choose).
  • A framed element (picture, window, fireplace, etc).
  • Show logical light source and cast shadows.

Project Schedule:

Sketches of your selected area are due on Tuesday, September 20, 2011.  The instructor must approve all sketches before the designer is permitted to proceed on the computer. Studio days for this project will be from September 27 – October 13, 2011.

Final Room Projects are due by the end of class on Tuesday, Oct 13, 2011.  Projects may be turned in earlier but will not be accepted late. Work must be submitted as an Adobe Illustrator EPS format. Project must also be printed for the critique.

The Project Critique will be held on Thursday, October 18, 2011.
